Infinity Construction gains visibility with HammerTech HSEQ

Infinity Construction set unparalleled excellence as their benchmark. Each project must live up to their high standard and even higher quality craftsmanship for clients. Their team continually finds ways to innovate to improve processes that require skilled people and systems.

The Challenge

On-site safety process efficiency was identified as both an issue and opportunity. The team knew a review could yield significant improvements for the business and ensure they were sticking true to their innovation creed. Challenges included:

  • Paper-based compliance risks such as lost records
  • Record retrieval and storage challenges
  • Cumbersome subcontractor inductions
  • Time-consuming reporting

Everything safety was on paper and this was no longer sufficient for a company with high ambitions for delivery excellence and quality outcomes. Subcontractor inductions were also paper-based, long and cumbersome. Site teams were having challenges with record keeping, including lost receipts and time-consuming shuffling of volumes of paper. This inhibited their ability to access time-critical information.

Gathering and sharing intelligence from job sites as well as producing reports was slow and time-consuming. Infinity also had little insight into leading indicators that could help teams identify and prioritize HSEQ performance issues and process improvement needs.

Ultimately the reliance on paper was creating headaches, and inefficiencies that were failing the company.

The market was moving quickly and competition was successfully adopting digital HSEQ systems like HammerTech that were more powerful than the capability Infinity had.

“We wanted to migrate construction site projects from a paper-based system to a digital system that also allowed for real-time data accessibility.” Catherine Vaughan, HSEQ and Systems Manager, Infinity.

The Focus

With site teams dealing with these inefficiencies day-in and day-out, the need to improve became overwhelming. Catherine Vaughan, HSEQ Systems Manager at Infinity remembers, “we wanted to migrate construction site projects from a paper-based system to a digital system also allowed for real-time data accessibility.” The urgent focus coalesced around three key components to remove the bottlenecks and increase efficiency:

  • Fast access to real-time data
  • Streamlined sub-contractor inductions
  • Online cloud-based JHAs

"We were able to successfully implement the new HammerTech platform because of their great implementation crew and fantastic post install online support."

The Solution

Catherine explains, “as with all new system implementations, there was some resistance to change. However, we were able to successfully implement the new HammerTech platform because of their great implementation crew and fantastic post install online support. They provided an excellent voice-to-voice support from an Australian-based team. The most impressive part is that they would not hang up the phone until the problem was solved. That was very important for us.”

Ultimately the implementation of HammerTech for their digital-first safety system led to significant improvements:

The Results

On-site and project efficiency gains have been substantial. HSEQ monitoring is now real-time and teams can easily complete daily, weekly, and monthly reports. This provides a dramatic increase in visibility of what is happening across all sites. As Catherine relates, “the system allowed us to develop detailed and custom checklists on a wide range of areas (including inbuilt detailed reference material for the site staff to access). Knowing who is on-site in real-time is also a real benefit.”

But it’s not just the site teams that are happy. The executive team has also benefited from greater transparency about what is taking place in the field from anywhere at any time. This helps underline their commitment to project excellence and innovation.

Tangible results are what matter in construction, “my workday is greatly improved. Subcontractor induction time has reduced significantly, and I now have greater transparency of sub-contractor’s ticket expiries, training due dates, and insurance expiry dates. All real benefits that improve my productivity and help the business be better.”
