    FAQs

Why do I need both HammerTech and Irongate for site access control?

HammerTech and Irongate work together to connect construction site access control with worker safety, compliance, and site activity data.

Irongate provides the physical access control hardware at the site entry point, including turnstiles, card readers, facial recognition, RFID, QR codes, and smart PIN code options. HammerTech provides the construction safety platform that manages worker profiles, onboarding, safety orientations, subcontractor documentation, compliance status, site records, and reporting.

Together, the integration helps contractors verify who is entering the site, confirm workers meet site requirements, and track site access activity in real time.

Instead of managing access control separately from safety compliance, HammerTech and Irongate create one connected process for worker onboarding, site entry, identity verification, and compliance management.

Does facial recognition work with hard hats, glasses, or PPE?

Yes. Irongate’s facial recognition system is designed for construction site conditions and can recognize workers wearing common PPE, including hard hats and clear safety glasses.

If facial recognition is affected by items that obscure the face, such as sunglasses, face coverings, poor lighting, or unusual camera angles, the system can prompt the worker to adjust or use another approved access method.

RFID cards, QR codes, and smart PIN codes can also be used as backup access options, helping keep site entry moving while maintaining worker identity verification and access control.

How does HammerTech + Irongate handle facial recognition data privacy?

HammerTech and Irongate are designed to support secure, privacy-conscious construction site access control.

Facial recognition data is handled by Irongate for the purpose of worker identity verification at site entry. Biometric data is not shared with or stored in the HammerTech platform. HammerTech uses the access control result and worker compliance status to help determine whether a worker should be allowed onsite.

Irongate applies security controls such as encrypted data storage and access restrictions to help protect facial recognition data. This allows contractors to use facial recognition for site access while keeping biometric data separate from HammerTech’s safety and compliance records.

How does Irongate help track accurate worker hours in HammerTech?

Irongate captures each worker’s sign-in and sign-out time at the turnstile, then sends that access data into HammerTech for site diaries, daily reports, and labor hour tracking.

Because worker hours are based on actual site entry and exit activity, contractors get more accurate labor data with fewer manual entries, fewer errors, and less admin work. This helps reduce discrepancies, support reporting, and minimize claims related to inaccurate worker hours.

What makes the Irongate access control system more robust compared to other solutions?

Irongate is built specifically for construction site access control, where hardware needs to perform in harsh, high-traffic jobsite conditions.

Unlike generic access control systems, Irongate solutions are designed for the realities of active construction sites, including outdoor environments, worker rush periods, dust, debris, changing site layouts, and the need to keep crews moving safely through entry points.

This helps reduce access delays, equipment breakdowns, bottlenecks, and site disruptions. If an issue does occur, Irongate provides responsive support to help keep site access running smoothly.

Is this solution for smaller or large-scale projects?

The HammerTech and Irongate integration can support construction site access control for projects of different sizes, from smaller jobsites to large-scale, high-traffic projects.

For larger sites, contractors can use Irongate turnstiles and access control hardware to manage worker entry and exit at scale. For smaller or more flexible sites, QR code sign-in, sign-out, and other access options can help teams track who is onsite without adding unnecessary complexity.

This gives contractors a scalable way to manage site access, worker visibility, safety compliance, and labor tracking across different project types.

Do I get notified if a worker’s SST card has expired, been canceled, or revoked?

HammerTech stores SST card details captured during worker onboarding and orientation, including the card expiry date. When the expiry date is reached, the worker’s access can be automatically revoked, and the Irongate gate will deny entry.

This helps prevent workers with expired SST cards from accessing the site and supports automated NYC SST card compliance at the point of entry.

If SST card cancellation or revocation data is available in the worker’s profile or integration workflow, that status can also be used to help prevent non-compliant site access.
